Robert A. Fahr Watervliet Public Library Food and Snack Policy

Robert A. Fahr Watervliet Public Library is dedicated to providing visitors with a welcoming, community centered environment. We understand that allowing food in the library is important in creating a welcoming space for our customers.
Because of this, food and drink is allowed in the library. Customers who choose to eat in the library are asked to adhere to the following:

Robert A. Fahr Watervliet Public Library is dedicated to providing visitors with a welcoming, community centered environment. We understand that allowing food in the library is important in creating a welcoming space for our customers.
Because of this, food and drink is allowed in the library. Customers who choose to eat in the library are asked to adhere to the following:
- Those who eat and/or bring food in the library are expected to be considerate of their peers. If a community member makes a customer aware, or asks a staff member to make a customer aware that their food is creating aromas, noise or distractions that are interrupting their use of the library, the person eating is asked to put the food away or take/ eat it outside of the library. (In the lobby or outdoor patio area.)
- Customers who eat in the library bear the responsibility of throwing all trash, wrappers etc. away in an appropriate trash receptacle. Crumbs should be properly disposed of as well.
- Customers who eat in the library are expected to report any spills to staff immediately and assist in cleaning them up.
- If library materials are damaged due to a food or beverage spill, the library may charge the snacking customer for the cost of the items damaged. These fees can include the cost of laptops, desktop computers, iPads or other library technology.
- Customers are encouraged to avoid bringing glass containers into the library. Plastic containers and beverages with covered tops are preferred.
Library staff may take any of the following actions to ensure that food and snack policy is being adhered to:
- Instruct customers to put food away or take it out of the library
- Deliver verbal warnings
- Deliver written warnings
- Suspend or revoke library snacking privileges for any amount of time deemed appropriate
- Suspend or revoke library use privileges for any amount of time deemed appropriate
