In keeping with the theme of this year's Summer Reading Program, "Build a Better World," the library has a community-building challenge for Watervliet! We rescued this abandoned magazine dispenser from the side of the road: And want to transform it into a neighborhood book exchange, like one of these: A neighborhood book exchange, sometimes called a "Little Free Library," is a receptacle designed to encourage the free flow of ideas and materials, where anyone can take a book to read or leave a book for others to find.
We need your help to design and decorate our neighborhood book exchange! Watervliet residents age 18 and under can submit a design. The only limitation is that the design must contain the phrase "Take a Book, Leave a Book" (so that everyone knows what to do!) The winning designer will be able to paint their design onto the book exchange, which will be installed in one of Watervliet's parks for all to enjoy! Submit your design to the library in person on 8.5" x 11" paper, or scan and send your design to director@watervlietpubliclibrary.org by August 31. The winning artist will receive a case of professional art supplies, coloring books, and a $25 gift card to Arlene's Artist Materials, and the knowledge that you've helped to build a better Watervliet!
